From Vision to Landmark
The Blue Water Bridge
Tuesday, July 14
3:00pm - 4:00pm
This talk will examine the history of the uses of the St. Clair River and the construction of the Blue Water Bridge. In partnership with the Lambton Heritage Museum.
The Blue Water Bridge’s twin spans are an iconic Lambton County landmark. The bridge arcs gracefully over the blue-green waters of the St. Clair River. This talk will look at the earliest uses of this river crossing by Indigenous peoples, then the development of this crossing by early European settlers. The construction of the bridge in 1937 and 1938 will be discussed, with photographs and video footage to show the process. The final topics are the twinning of the bridge in the 1990s and its ongoing significance to the community.
