Make a butterfly feeder to attract these important pollinators to your garden.
Did you know that butterflies eat a sugary liquid called nectar and that they have an organ called a proboscis that sucks up the liquid from deep within the flower, like drinking from a long straw? Bright colours and sweet smells attract butterflies to your garden. For today's activity, you will use craft supplies and recycled glass jars to make a butterfly feeding station from where you will be able to observe these wonderous insects up close while they feast on a sugar water substitute for nectar (recipe included).
Flutter out to the library for an artsy afternoon all about butterflies!
Recommended ages 7-12
