Giigoonh, a rare Spotted Gar, must search far and wide in the scary underwater world to find a forever home. But Giigoonh’s search for a home is not without obstacles. Luckily, a few biologists discover a creative way for Giigoonh to thrive. Along the way, Giigoonh overcomes many fears and becomes friends with other rare Species at Risk living in the underwater world.
Finding A Forever Home: The Adventures of Giigoonh the Spotted Gar is a children’s book authored by Dominique Rumball in collaboration with Benny Skinner, illustrated by Shaela Kinting, and edited by Amelia Labenski. Their vision for the book is to share their passion and love for nature through a story inspired by Dominique Rumball's research on the conservation of freshwater Species at Risk. They hope to embrace and celebrate justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity through the many languages and cultures of the characters and the land throughout the book. Giigoonh’s search for a home is not without obstacles, but luckily, a few biologists discover a creative way for Giigoonh to thrive. Along the way, Giigoonh overcomes many fears and becomes friends with other rare Species at Risk living in the underwater world.
