1907 Peking to Paris Race
Summer Reading Challenge
Tuesday, July 28
1:30pm - 2:30pm
Join guest speaker, Patrick J Stuurman, to learn about the 1907 Peking to Paris auto race.
In 1907 the Parisian newspaper Le Matin sponsored an auto race from Peking to Paris. This was a race halfway around the world, over terrain with bad roads or no roads and even across the Gobi Desert. To add to drama, each racer was in an automobile that used the primitive automotive technology of the early 1900s! Although many people thought the feat was impossible, five brave race teams made the attempt! Join us to learn how they fared.
This program is designed for adults.
Registration is required.
