Join author Maria Moore for a discussion of her recent book, “Not My Kind of Mennonite”, followed by an interactive writing workshop.
“Not My Kind of Mennonite” is a personal dive into the history, culture, and religious and social pressures faced by one Mexican Mennonite family. Maria Moore blends her research about the Mennonite community with firsthand accounts about her family to fully explore her father’s legacy, life, hopes, and dreams.
Maria Moore was born in Mexico but she has spent her life in southwestern Ontario. She has had a fulfilling career as a registered nurse with a focus on mental health, addictions and advocacy. She enjoys hiking, storytelling and writing. With her first book, she hopes to bring awareness of the specific traumas and abuse in the private world of Mennonites and make it safe to disclose and seek treatment without shame.
