“Aberdeen” follows a woman who must rise above hardships to save her grandchildren, and herself.
“Aberdeen” follows a middle-aged Indigenous climate refugee forced from her ancestral home by flooding. Relocated to inner-city Winnipeg, Aberdeen faces a cycle of intergenerational trauma that has fractured her family for five generations, while struggling to protect her grandchildren, now caught in the child welfare system.
As autumn fades to winter, Aberdeen tries to rebuild her life while coping with addiction and the pain of separation from her grandsons. When she loses her status card—essential for accessing support services to overcome her addictions and regain custody—she becomes trapped in a frustrating bureaucracy that blocks her at every turn, pushing her resilience to its limits.
Determined to reclaim her identity, her grandchildren, and her sense of self, “Aberdeen” must find strength within to break the cycle of trauma and keep her family together.
