Hear from Marie Carter about her book "In the Light of Dawn", shining a spotlight on the Dawn Settlement, a historic abolitionist community in rural Ontario led by Reverend Josiah Henson.
A lifelong resident of the former "Dawn Settlement" area, Marie Carter has devoted over 25 years of research into discovering what are the remarkable unknown stories of early settlers of African-descent who came to Lambton County's Dawn Township. Many of these individuals do not fit the usual depiction of Black settlers as "fugitive slaves" , but more rightly can be typified as pioneers and early land and community developers. Discovery these fascinating lost histories and their connection to Enniskillen and Euphemia Townships including Oil Springs.
